Bing Introduces 'Visual Search' To Refine Search Results

Of late, Microsoft has conducted a study that shows that images give the users 20% faster search results than the text only. Hence, it has become clear that images play a key role in various search activities for movies, cars, news and different products.
It seems like Bing has seriously followed the above study for search results. Yesterday, Bing in a blog post announced new Visual Search feature, which is a new way to refine your search queries through imagery to enjoy more structured search results. To see new visual search experience, just go to www.bing.com/visualsearch and install Silverlight in case you do not have it. Visual search lets you scroll through the galleries or do one-click refinement using the quick tabs that are on the left to help get results which you are looking for.
Here are few examples of visual search galleries and how it can be used:
Movies

Now, this new visual feature will allow you refine your search for movies. Just click on “Movies” and scroll through the imagery to find “what’s-his-name” and now hover mouse over the movie to see the details such as title, rating, reviews, and its box office performance.
Product Search

When looking for the online products, you want to gather some informations before making its purchase. Images play a vital role in this regard. (http://www.bing.com/community/blogs/sea … words.aspx) For instance, people looking for shopping, Visual Search can help them find products instantly from laptops to handbags. This new search is just like catalog in their hand.
Books

Visual Search will help book lovers find the best books online in a faster manner. The users need one click on the image of the book they want. So, again it narrows down your search with one-click filters such as author, format or the category you are looking for.
Cars

When looking for cars, a long list of results appears that makes your search a bit complex, but with Visual Search, you will be able to enjoy more refined search in a quick span of time. Visual searching for cars is just like going to showroom of cars. It saves lots of time of the consumers.
