Pandia reports that, Yahoo! has dropped the Boolean support, that assists in creating complex queries in search engines.

According to Pandia, “Now the NOT operator is gone in Yahoo!, and searchers will have to stick to the 'search engine math' operator to achieve the same effect. Put a minus-sign directly in front of a term that you want excluded from search result (meaning that Yahoo! will exclude pages that has that term in their text).â€

It seems that due to the extremely low usage of Boolean by users, Yahoo! has decided to drop this factor. However, losing the Boolean isn't a smart move from Yahoo!, as this factor is mostly used by the intellectual and academic community that comprises of librarians, journalists and researchers. By far these are the people whose views, suggestions and comments are taken in the highest of regards, and also affect the public opinion on various topics.

More commonly used Boolean terms are still being supported by Google, but Live Search in the only search engine that provides complete Boolean support making Live Search the standalone winner among all other search engines, at least in the field of Boolean support.
