After the AdSense was originally launched in the year 2003, there have been only a few noticeable changes in the AdSense user interface and addition of new account overview page is one of them.

AdSense has recently announced the brand new user interface for publishers at Content Revenue Strategies. It will initially start as a closed beta, but if you have CRS, you can directly go to the optimization area to get yourself on the whitelist for closed beta.

There is an inbox in the user interface where you will find messages and tips from the AdSense team. This particular feature has been added after the request of publishers. As there is an increase in the phishing emails related to AdSense and AdWords, the feature will prove to be really useful.

Here are some other features of the Publisher Interface:

• After you will login, you will see running totals on the right hand side of the page. It will not only include your total for that particular day but also the total revenue generated after the last payment.
• There are many graphs on the page with metrics including: page impressions, clicks, page eCPM and page CTR.
• The interface also has many help topics. Therefore, it you have any question related to specific metrics on the page, you can refer the help link for further information.

New User Interface for Publishers Launched by AdSense

It has been announced in a recent Inside AdSense blog that ad units served on cellphones, mainly the high-end models will now be more optimized to fully utilize the display capabilities of the phone. Earlier, AdSense mobile publishers were only able to serve smaller text and images on the mobile content.

A JavaScript snippet, which is easier to implement and is optimized for mobile web has made it possible to implement the new feature. Publishers can now choose the additional ad unit sizes from common AdSense format that was earlier used on mobile sites.

If you are an AdSense publisher, you won't be require to load extra features to run the larger AdSense ad units on the cellphone. If a user is browsing content through his/her high-end phone, Google AdSense will automatically detect it and serve the larger AdSense units. The new feature is expected to increase AdSense revenue.

Optimized AdSense for High-End Cellphones

A recent post on the Inside AdSense Blog revealed that Google is all set to allow multiple Google-certified ad networks to compete with AdWords advertisers for display ad space on AdSense enabled sites. With this new change, ad networks or non-AdWords advertisers will also be able to bid on Google ad auction.

Well, this would be a nice way for AdSense publishers to generate revenue from their display ad space, no matter whether the ads come from AdWords advertisers or Google-certified ad networks. However, publishers will have control over which networks can show ads on their pages. They can also opt out of receiving ads from specific networks or all networks and have only AdWords advertisers to display ads on their sites. In addition, Google will not allow ad networks to collect any user data to be used for Internet-based advertising. This new feature will initially be available for AdSense publishers in North America and Europe. Below is a video that explains the change:

“We're writing to let you know about an upcoming update in your AdSense account designed to help you generate the maximum revenue from your ad units. You'll soon be able to allow multiple ad networks to show on your pages, which means that advertisers from external Google-certified networks will be able to compete with AdWords advertisers for your ad space. If you're unfamiliar with what ad networks are, they're companies that partner with advertisers and publishers to buy and sell ads on sites they don't own themselves, similar to AdSense. Ads from these networks will compete with Google ads to show on publisher sites, and the ad generating the highest revenue for publishers will be displayed. To ensure the quality of the ads appearing on your sites, we're certifying all participating ad networks for adherence to our standards for user privacy, ad quality, and speed. You'll also have control over which networks can show ads on your pages — you can choose to opt out of receiving ads from specific networks, or all networks completely. This means you can continue to show ads from only AdWords advertisers if you'd like. Finally, some ad networks use tools similar to Google's interest-based advertising to show more relevant ads to users on the sites they visit. You'll have the ability to opt out of showing ads based on user interests from these ad networks, and we've changed our requirements for third-party ad serving to reflect this. A recent post at Google AdSense Blog lets us know that Google is going to make changes to the AdSense's contextual targeting algorithms in order to make ads on a website more relevant to its webpages.

After introducing 'Standard AdSense font family' back in February, Google AdSense is updating font styles for its ad units once again of late. Reportedly, AdSense is changing the default font used in the different ad units and it's done on the basis of which ad font performs best in a particular ad unit.

Here are the new defaults:

Arial: 728×90, 336×280, 120×600, 120×240

Verdana: 300×250, 160×600, 468×60, 250×250, 234×60, 125×125, 180×150

Times New Roman: 200×200

The new fonts are expected to come into play within the next few days!

Google Announces the AdSense for Mobile Applications beta

Just after introducing the AdSense feature that allows changing font faces of ad units, Google has now announced another feature related to it. This time it is changing the size of the fonts of the text in AdSense ad units. You have an option to choose from three font sizes – small, medium and large.

The Inside AdSense blog is talking about important things that should be remembered while changing the font size. These include:

• Ad titles will be scaled.
• Font size can only be applied to the body of the ad.
• There will be a different font size for each format size, browser, font face and OS settings on the user side.
• The font size application will however vary as per the space available in the ad units.

Google has also announced that the default font size of all the AdSense units will soon be changed to “medium” size, which is currently set at “small” size. The company has taken such step as a response to the publisher feedbacks about the small size of the text, because larger font size leads to an improved ad performance.

If you want to change the font size of your ad settings, go to account's Ad Display Preference and choose the font size you want to have. This changed font size can be implemented across all the AdSense ad units or in a special ad unit only.

Google to Hold Webinar on AdSense

Google AdSense for Feeds recently announced that its ads will now run using the googleads.g.doubleclick.net clickthough URL, instead of the previous pageads.googlesyndication.com.

AdSense made this switch last month:

This change in the URL where the ads are served from is due to the DoubleClick ad serving cookie that we launched on the Google content network last year. Since this cookie is on the doubleclick.net domain, we’ve had to update our URLs to point to doubleclick.net, as well as to give you the associated benefits such as frequency capping and improved attribution.

However, this is only an infrastructure change — there haven’t been any changes to the ads themselves. The ads you see are still coming from AdWords advertisers or third-party advertisers, just as they were before, and it’s not the case that you’re now receiving ‘DoubleClick ads’ instead of ‘Google ads’.

Google aquired DoubleClick a few years ago, with the aim of having a better access on the display advertising market. The current change is just a step in that direction.

According to Steve Olechowski, Product Manager for AdSense for feeds, said “changing their ad serving to the doubleclick.net domain, AdSense for Feeds is now allowing advertisers to more easily create campaigns that span all media platform types on the Google Content Network, including sites, feeds, and mobile.”

Google Announces AdSense Ads with Doubleclick.net Clickthrough for Feeds Updates

Google recently announced the integration of Publishers Center with Google Ad Planner – Google Ad Planner Publisher Center. This new feature will help AdSense publishers to increase their site's visibility and attract potential advertisers.

AdSense publishers also have the option to integrate their site's Google Analytics to Google Ad Planner Publisher Center. It will allow potential advertisers to identify sites that display their ad campaigns based on site page views and unique visitors. As more advertisers become aware of your sites, both the competition among your ads and earnings will increase.

You can claim sites you own and also customize its description with the help of Publishers Center within Ad Planner. Up to five categories can be added in each of the sites that you showcase your site's content, and the types, sizes, and formats of ads that your site supports.

You can also share your Google Analytics data with Ad Planner to provide additional details about your site to advertisers, such as unique number of visitors and page views. To provide advertisers with more accurate traffic information, just replace Ad Planner traffic estimates with Google Analytics data.

However, when you claim your site make sure to specify relevant keywords that would identify your site accurately. You also have the option to specify other pertinent information including, ad placement type, ad creative format, ad sizes and link to your site’s advertising policy.

Google Hosting Free Webinars for New AdSense Publishers!

Google has recently made the AdSense and Analytic integration made available to all its publishers. This feature was first made available only to selected AdSense publishers but now, made available for all. It will provide useful information about site traffic to individual pages as well as how users will be able to interact with publishers' sites.

The new feature is expected to give Google AdSense publishers more control over their content for a more profitable AdSense implication. The linking of AdSense and Analytics account will give publishers the following additional reports on their Analytics page:

• Top AdSense Content – Publishers will now receive more information about specific pages on their site as well as analyze ad performance. They will also be able to view which pages have more pageviews, to implement additional optimization efforts.
• Top AdSense Referrers - How different incoming traffic sources will add to revenue.
• AdSense Trending – It will allow publishers analyze how to generates revenue for their sites during different times of the day and week.

To experience this new feature just login to your AdSense account and click on the link to integrate AdSense and Analytics at the AdSense report page. The moment you click, you'll notice a new “AdSense Revenue” tab on your Analytics account. Google AdSense-Analytics Integration: Now Available for All!

AdSense recently released its new policies for link sellers and publishers. The new AdSense policies have been completely reorganized to ensure everything is taken into consideration. Google has also requested publishers participating in the AdSense program to check these policies for updates frequently, as they may change them at any time.

Here are some of the important points for publishers as per the new policies:

• Now, selling links to gambling sites, casinos, prescription drug sites will be considered a violation of the AdSense terms.
• Contents/ads should be blended enough, so that it's difficult to tell them apart.
• Every AdSense publisher must now follow the webmasters guidelines, which includes no hidden text links, information-rich sites, and no doorways or cookie cutter affiliate sites.
• Any traffic changes received from paid search.

These policies have been double checked for additions and removals as well. Here's a brief overview on the changes made in its different sections:

Invalid Clicks & Impressions

It mainly lists different “prohibited methods.” This section has been added before the “Learn more” notation:

Publishers may not click on their own ads or use any means to artificially inflate impressions and/or clicks, including manual methods.

In this section AdSense have added a new section called “Traffic Sources.” Therefore, third party services like paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programs have been removed and included under another heading.

Encouraging Clicks

The following snippet has been added to this section:

This includes, but is not limited to, offering compensation to users for viewing ads or performing searches, promising to raise money for third parties for such behavior, or placing images next to individual ads.

Under this section AdSense have moved the below mentioned points to the later traffic sources section:

• May not promote sites displaying ads through unsolicited mass emails or unwanted advertisements on third-party websites.
• May not compensate users for viewing ads or performing searches, or promise compensation to a third party for such behavior.

AdSense have added the following points:

• Compensate users for viewing ads or performing searches, or promise compensation to a third party for such behavior.
• Place ads in a floating box script.
• Format ads so that they become indistinguishable from other content on that page.
• Format site content so that it is difficult to distinguish it from ads.

The last two points are expected to have major impact on many publishers who have mastered the blended technique, especially wrapping text around the ad units.

Content Guidelines

This section talks about content violations. Publishers displaying ads through AdSense may not include or link to casinos/gambling or prescription drug sites in particular. This step is considered to be Google's way to reduce the number of text links sold, by making it a violation for AdSense publishers.

Copyrighted Material

This section is the same.

Webmaster Guidelines

Earlier this section used to be just a reference to webmasters guidelines but now, it is mostly new. Following are some of the key points included in this section:

• Do not place excessive, repetitive, or irrelevant keywords in the content or code of webpages.
• Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
• Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines, or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
• Do not include deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site’s search engine ranking (e.g., your site’s PageRank).
• Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.

Traffic Sources

Another new section included in the AdSense policies, although most of its parts have been put together from the previous version.

It now reads like this:

Receive traffic from online advertising unless the site complies with the spirit of Google’s Landing Page Quality Guidelines. For instance, users should be able to easily find what your ad promises.

Ad Behavior

This section is the same.

Ad Placement

This section is also same as the earlier policies, just two key additions such as:

Google ads, search boxes, or search results may not be:

• Placed on pages whose content or URL could confuse users into thinking it is associated with Google due to the misuse of logos, trademarks, or other brand features.
• Placed on, within, or alongside other Google products or services in a manner that violates the policies of that product or service.

This is another thing that will affect many publishers that have *any* Google product name or service in their URLs or on their pages.

Site Behavior

This section is the same.

Competitive Ads and Services

Only the wording has been changed but the meaning is still the same.

Google Advertising Cookies

This section is the same.

Product-Specific Policies

Some changes have been made in this subsection. It now reads:

A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed per page. Also, a single link unit or a search box, but no other Google ads, may be placed on pages with AdSense for search results. Queries must originate from users inputting data directly into the search box and cannot be modified. This includes pre-populating the search box with terms or hard-coding direct links to search results pages. AdSense for search code may not be integrated into any software application such as a toolbar.

This point will surely clear any doubts regarding usage of AdSense for Search in any kind of program, such as a toolbar or plugin. Another thing that needs to be noted is the search results page, which can also have an added search box.

Others

There were some more parts removed from the older policy, but they were all related to the now defunct AdSense referrals.

Updated AdSense Policies Released- Key Points for Publishers

If you are amongst those who have maxed out their competitive ad filter, here's a good news for you. AdSense has now increased the number of filters it provides to publishers up to 500.

But, do remember to add only those you need. Before adding URLs, one must keep in mind that blocking an advertiser means the ads worth less money will be shown on that particular place. AdSense providing 500 Ad Filters to Publishers

In one of the recent reports, Google AdSense announced the addition of email preferences to the account page. The new addition will allow users to receive specific messages like event invitations, details about webinars, and personalized account suggestions from Google team.

According to AdSense Advisor,

“These new email notification preferences were created in response to feedback from you guys that we haven't been giving you enough opportunities to hear from us. Until now, you've all been limited in the kinds and formats of information you could sign up to receive by email, so we wanted to give you more options and better control over the email offers you get from us.

If you sign up for all the new categories, you'll be eligible for all kinds of great stuff that I probably shouldn't give too many details on yet.”

All you need to do is sign up once and select the type of messages you'd like to receive. In just a few days, you'll be prompted with a one-time interstitial page. However, if you want to change your selection just log in to your account and visit the contact preference section. You can view these new additions under the contact preferences page very soon.

Google AdSense Adds Email Preferences to Account Page

Google AdSense Now a Twitter Account Holder. Google AdSense has come up with its own Twitter account for tweeting on all the things of AdSense. It has also highlighted some of the account features on its blogs and has discussed about a forum thread. Publishers will get a chance to share AdSense tips on this new forum thread.

Till now, there are only 6 tweets but the team will become more active soon. The most vital feature of AdSense twitter account is that it will alert publishers about any issues related to delayed stats or problem with the control panel access during an unscheduled downtime. So far, there are only 105 followers and if you are also on Twitter, then go and follow @adsense. But, this is worth mentioning that AdSense is at present following only a couple of official Google Twitter accounts.

Google AdSense Now a Twitter Account Holder

Google Adsense has decided to no longer give Adsense for its only one year old video ads. With this program, publishers had the freedom of showing YouTube videos and Adsense ads overlayed on their sites. But, do not confuse it with the ads, where the videos of the advertiser appear in an ad unit along with text or image ad.

The program was getting good response as it was benefiting the publishers. Although, certain usage restrictions made it a not-so-popular and not-widely adopted program. Google has mentioned in the post that it will be ending the program at the end of April and publishers are asked to remove the units before that.

Google Adsense Soon to Withdraw AdSense for Video Support

Google has recently launched the beta test of "Interest-based" advertising to make advertising more targetted.

"Today we are launching "interest-based" advertising as a beta test on our partner sites and on YouTube. These ads will associate categories of interest – say sports, gardening, cars, pets – with your browser, based on the types of sites you visit and the pages you view. We may then use those interest categories to show you more relevant text and display ads."

The three important features of this launch are:

1. Transparency – The ads are clearly labeled on YouTube and other partner sites. AdSense is planning to provide more information on this process in future.
2. Choice – A tool called 'Ads Preferences Manager,' allows you to receive ads that are more relevant to your preference level.
3. Control – Google has also designed a plug-in http://www.google.com/ads/preferences/plugin that maintains your opt-out choices as well.

Google states "We believe that interest-based ads will create the same virtuous cycle, by giving users more relevant ads, while generating higher returns for advertisers and publishers".
