The New MSN Homepage with Bing Search Package is Out!

The Google voice search has matured quickly by traveling across the world and developing a better understanding of the U.S., U.K, Australian and Indian accent. Taking a step further, the Google has now made the voice search available for Nokia S60 Phones in China. The best part is that the phones will now understand the commands given in Mandarin Chinese.

S60 phones are popular around the world. If you are using Nseries or Eseries phones, you are using S60. Most of the phones have QWERTY keyboard that makes calling easier but texting a hassle. With the voice feature, you will now be able to write text easily with a voice command.

At present, voice feature works for S60 phones, but the support for Mandarin speech recognition is being added to iPhone and Android phones. Google has said that the Mandarin version might not be as polished as the English version, still it will be helpful and the team is working on improving the accent features.

The voice search version of Google Mobile Application provides you a shortcut to Google search on phone. You can either search by typing or giving voice command. As the results are showed in application, you don't have to wait for the browser to launch and provide you an answer.

It is also to be noted that the application is only for version 3 of NokiaS60 and the recent phones with version 5 do not support the feature yet.

Google Voice Search Application for Nokia S60s in Mandarin Chinese

Yahoo! has filed a document with SEC saying that Microsoft failed to finalize the deal by October 27, 2009. Although, there is a statement in the document saying that progress was being made.

Here's the extract:

“On October 28, 2009, Yahoo! Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Yahoo!"), and Microsoft Corporation, a Washington corporation ("Microsoft"), mutually agreed to extend the period to negotiate and execute a Search and Advertising Services and Sales Agreement and a License Agreement (the "Definitive Agreements") reflecting and supplementing the provisions of such agreements as set forth in annexes to their binding letter agreement dated July 29, 2009 (the "Letter Agreement"). The Letter Agreement specified that the parties would execute Definitive Agreements by October 27, 2009, but given the complex nature of the transaction, there remain some details to be finalized. The parties are working diligently on finalizing the agreements, have made good progress to date, and have agreed to execute the agreements as expeditiously as possible. The Letter Agreement was the subject of a Current Report on Form 8-K filed by Yahoo! on August 4, 2009”.

When Nathania Johnson from Search Engine Watch reached out to Microsoft to get further updates on the comment, the response was received after the news of the document spread:

“Microsoft and Yahoo! are committed to this agreement and believe this is a highly competitive deal that is good for consumers, advertisers and publishers. We have made good progress in finalizing the definitive agreements. Given the complex nature of this transaction there remain some issues that need some additional clarity and definitive details. So, the teams at Yahoo! and Microsoft are continuing to work on the remaining details, and we have mutually agreed to extend the period to negotiate and execute the agreement. We plan to do this as expeditiously as possible. Both companies are optimistic that we will be able to close this deal by early 2010”.

Ask.com Announces "Ask Deals" Launch : An Easier Way to Find the Best Deals on the Web

Google has won the EU protected keywords hearing against its long time nemesis, LVMH Luis Vuitton Moet Hennessy that had filed a case about Google infringing on European trade mark. Google still continues its advertisers to allow the use of “protected keywords.”

Advocate General Luis Miguel Poiares Pessoa Maduro told the European Court of Justice that Google doesn’t go against EU trademark law. He also added that if Google uses protected keywords to serve links to specific products, it will not confuse customers.

Though, Mr. Maduro gave the decision in favour of Google but at the same time he clarified that Google does not have any right to invoke EU Law unlesss there is a breach in Trademark policy.

Google Gets Favorable Decision For EU Protected Keywords Hearing

Yahoo! has come up with a major change in its Search Portal. In a Recent post, Yahoo Search blog announced its new Yahoo Search format to demonstrate their innovation in search technology and make your search more advanced to deliver a rich user experience.

The previous changes introduced by Yahoo includes a new Yahoo! homepage, improved Yahoo! Mail, high-quality video calling in Yahoo! Messenger, and a suite of new Yahoo! Mobile experiences.

Here are some key features of the new Yahoo Search page design:

• Feature-Rich Experience – This is meant for having a quick access to search features such as Search Scan/SafeSearch that help the users protect you from viruses, spyware and spam. Hence, it will be easier for people to the research documents that they have created during searching.
• Search Assist Expansion – This new design of the page will help the users to avail powerful query assistance that is available directly below the search box. It has also been given on the left-hand column for quick access lower on the page, even when the Search Assist layer is hidden. For further assistance, Yahoo has added Search Assist to the search box on every Yahoo! page in the U.S. with the launch of a new universal header.
• Intelligent Search Results – This feature allows the users to explore results from sites and narrow results using different types of SearchMonkey structured data. In the past few months, it has been seen that some more enhanced results for product, local, entertainment, reference, social, and tech sites have been displayed automatically. With this new search page design, Yahoo claims that they have made it easier for the users to experience rich results from an increasing number of sites.

The new Yahoo Search page design not only makes search easier but also has an improved Page load and Perceived load times with a better inline data URI Images.
