Finally, shared site ownership is possible without having to go through the meta tag or HTML file verification process. The Google Webmaster Central Blog has mentioned that a verified user can add new users by going to the Verification Details page or the Verification home page.

That (Verification Details page) page will show you information about the site as well as a list of any other verified owners. At the bottom of the list of owners, you'll now see a button labeled "Add a user…". Click that, enter the user's email address, and that person will instantly become a verified owner for the site! You can remove that ownership at any time by clicking the "Unverify" link next to the person's email address on the Details page.

The new process requires at least one owner who has verified through the meta tag or HTML file. If all of the directly verified owners become unverified, the delegated owners become unverified too.

One more point to note is that the delegated members will have exactly the same access as you have. So, delegation has to be made carefully.

Google Enables Simpler Multiple Owner Verification for Webmaster Tools

Google is getting serious about optimizing its own product sites. The new *Google SEO Report Card* is an extensive analysis of more than 100 main pages of Google products.

The report is the outcome of an internal exercise to improve these pages from both search engines and user’s perspective. Google has made the report public hoping that companies and webmasters will learn from it. The report provides suggestions and examples for fixing the issues, which range from broken links and URL structure to titles/metas and on-page content.

The project looked at the main pages of 100 different Google products, measuring them across a dozen common optimization categories. Future iterations of the project might look at deeper Google product web pages as well as international ones./

Google announces the experiment to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in some trial regions of US. Its planning to deliver 1Gb/sec broadband service to the Americans, that will be around 100 times faster to the normally accessible internet speed in US.

These will be the revolutionary fiber-to-home connections, that will be offered to only 50,000 to a maximum of 500,000 people, at a competitive price. This powerful broadband service will allow the users to download a full-length high definition movie in less than 5 minutes. Google plans to make internet access faster and better with this new experiment.

Our goal is to experiment with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster for everyone. Here are some specific things that we have in mind:

• Next generation apps: We want to see what developers and users can do with ultra high-speeds, whether it's creating new bandwidth-intensive "killer apps" and services, or other uses we can't yet imagine.
• New deployment techniques: We'll test new ways to build fiber networks, and to help inform and support deployments elsewhere, we'll share key lessons learned with the world.
• Openness and choice: We'll operate an "open access" network, giving users the choice of multiple service providers. And consistent with our past advocacy, we'll manage our network in an open, on-discriminatory and transparent way.

Google is basically trying hands at the 'trail and error' method to develop what it aims at. But to begin with, it has put up a Request For Information (RFI) form to recognize the interested communities. It will collect all the responses by March 26 and will then announce the target communities. You get involved here.

Google’'s First Super Bowl Commercial – Parisian Lo

Google's official blog announced the launch of the beta version for its Social Search. The effect of this will be that now on all web and image searches will have results from blogs/reviews/public images uploaded by your friends and social contacts.

The image results are displayed under the heading 'Results from your social circle'. These pictures are the ones that are publicly published by your social contacts on the photo-sharing sites on the web like Picasa, Flickr etc. In beta you'll also find two new links as 'My social circle' and 'My social content'. The first option provides the user with the extended network of online social contacts and the details about the way that particular user is connected in that network.

While the second option of 'My social content' produces the published content pages of the online contacts in the social circle. This initiative by Google allows the user with a better social connectivity on the web thereby improving the search results of Google as an effective search engine.

At the end of year 2009, Google had launched its social search experiment to make the user search experience more personal and relevant in terms of the web content coming from the friends and other online contacts. Now it’s launched with a more user friendly and improvised social search in beta.

Google Rolls Out Social Search In Beta

The Google Reader Blog has announced a new functionality which allows creation of custom feed for web pages that don't offer their own feeds.

This will ensure a track of the website changes made on any web pages. These custom feeds will in turn alert you about every updated information on your favorite web pages. Google Reader initiated this new feature to easily follow the updates through its custom feed, even for those websites that do not have their own RSS feed.

These custom feeds are most useful if you want to be alerted whenever a specific page has been updated. For example, if you wanted to follow Google.org's latest products, just type "http://www.google.org/products.html" into Reader's "Add a subscription" field. Click "create a feed", and Reader will periodically visit the page and publish any significant changes it finds as items in a custom feed created just for that page.

Google Mobile has launched an all new localized search suggestions feature for the iPhone and Android phone system users. Based on the user’s current or last location, it makes searches on mobile devices easier and more relevant.

For example, if the phone user begins the Google search by typing a word like 'muse' while he is in   New York then, this new feature will automatically provide the user with search suggestions like 'museums in New York' or 'museums of fine art in New York'.

However, to make this feature working in your phone, you must first refresh Google.com in your phone browser to set the new optimized settings. Also, it is important that you turn on 'Save recent locations' and 'Allow use of device location' options under the Settings link on the Google.com Home page. Once you finish with these setting adjustments, one can do this improved search on your phone and see the suggested searches.

Google’s New Yearly Page Rank Update Is Here!

In many countries people depend on visual landmarks along way to remember a particular route rather than remembering street names. The problem for Google was to match the understanding of landmarks of the people. It took a whole user research study for Google to derive this service. Google inquired about several routes to those very people and from there Google got its blue print ready. The landmarks, which Google found out in its research are more popular among people and subsequently, are easy to remember for the users. For example, it's always easy to remember landmarks like a red building at the corner than a particular street name. Moreover these street names/boards are not even visual at times, whereas a good landmark is always visible.

Google claims that its new service will be more helpful in the situations like when one needs to make exit from the subway or when one needs to know an exact point to turn. At times people also like to confirm that they are walking on the right track or not. Now people have Google with them to tell them the exact route to their destination, if someone is traveling to an unknown place.

Google has already tested this service with drivers in Bangalore, India. It made the required changes after the trial and now they have added more landmarks and they have tried to be less dependent on street names. The best part if it is that now Google will serve as a local for its users in determining a route to a particular place.

Google Starts The New Year Countdown

In a recent Google Webmaster Blog post, a detailed information is given about how comment spamming can lower the rankings of any website in particular.

When someone posts a comment that is both irrelevant and posted just to pass the link so as to increase the number of inbound links to their website in particular, the rankings of both the sites will get affected in the process. This is applicable for those comments only that hold no relevance to the post and are completely unnecessary.

If you think a suspicious link has come from blogs and other platforms, you should check the URLs. In case you have created a spammy link, delete it or contact the webmaster to get it removed. After deleting the spammy inbound links, you can send a reconsideration request at Google Webmaster support. If you own a site that receives lot of comment spams daily, here are a few things you should do:

•  Disallow all the anonymous postings.
• Turn on the comment moderation option.
• Disallow all the hyperlinks in comments.
• You should CAPTCHAs and other methods for preventing automated comment spamming.
• Use robots.txt or meta tags for blocking comment pages.
• You can also use “nofollow” attribute for linking in comment field.

Google Sending “New Software Version Notifications” to Webmasters

Google has been experimenting a lot on their homepage and it has now shifted to search results as well. The team at present is testing a permanent left sidebar in the search result, which will display results in three columns including organic results, new sidebar and search ads.

Blogoscoped was the first to report this news on the World Wide Web. It is being said that after removing the submit buttons on homepage, Google is now getting the buttons back in new color, bright and primary blue.
