Coming Soon Wikiasari To Rival Google?
December 25th, 2006 | RSS Feed
Launching an Internet search engine soon is on the cards of the founder of online encyclopedia Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales. The search engine is named Wikiasari and will pose a direct competition to other major search engines like Google and Yahoo!. The user-based technology that is used by Wikipedia will be utilized by Wikiasari as well. Wikiasari will come with viable alternative search method against the search methods of Google which can now be manipulated by commercial ventures and spammers. Jimmy Wales discussing about the project with The Times of London said “Google is very good at many types of search, but in many instances it produces nothing but spam and useless crap. Try searching for the term 'Tampa hotels', for example, and you will not get any useful results.”
In the first quarter of 2007 there will be a provisional launch.
Although The Times of London says that for Wikiasari there is a collaboration between Jimmy Wales and Amazon.com. But on Wikia main page Wales has said that there is no such partnership between them and Amazon for the project.
