Google's personalized search page is in for a competition. Yahoo! Is set to launch Yahoo! Alpha beta – a new service which enables users to create and maintain a personalized search engine landing page, reports Digital Inspiration. Yahoo! Alpha shows search results from Yahoo! and other search services as well, that too on the same page. If you wish to search for information as well as image for a single keyword you can do it on the same page at one time.

DI informs, “The services currently available are Yahoo! Web search, Wikipedia, Flickr, YouTube but you can build your own search modules as long as they provide search results are available in the form of RSS feeds.”

Yahoo! Blog informs:
Yesterday, the Yahoo!7 Search team began testing a beta service called Alpha that was born out of pizza and furious coding.
Whilst aggregating feeds on one page is nothing new, we wanted to take a federated search concept one step further.

With this beta, we have introduced personalization elements that not only allow users to customise their view, but also to add their favorite search service (at least those who syndicate their search results via OpenSearch RSS).

We also decided to add a sharing element for logged in users of the site. Now, if you decide to share your personalized url with others, they can view and effectively use the search configuration you have developed.

We thought the idea was good enough to develop further into a public beta site and get a few ideas from the Australian search community at large.

Try Yahoo Alpha(Beta) here.
