Cool New Google Webmaster Tool: Who Links To Me
February 6th, 2007 | RSS Feed
The webmasters were very often bothered by Google not showing all of the backlings. A couple of days back Official Google Webmaster Central Blog offered a solution to each and every webmasters thwarting.
The blog stated:
You asked, and we listened: We've extended our support for querying links to your site to much beyond the link: operator you might have used in the past. Now you can use webmaster tools to view a much larger sample of links to pages on your site that we found on the web. Unlike the link: operator, this data is much more comprehensive and can be classified, filtered, and downloaded. All you need to do is verify site ownership to see this information.
To make this data even more useful, we have divided the world of links into two types: external and internal.
Internal Links:

External Links:

This Google Webmaster tool is free for all and allows a webmaster to see their site's backlinks. However there are some pros and cons to this tool:
- This tool allows a webmaster to download the backlinks in a user friendly CSV format. This enables a person to study and analyze the backlinks. As of now it is only possible to download upto a million backlinks.
- This tool does not yet show the complete backlinks data, however, it is expected to grow.
- It is not necessary that all the backlinks will carry weight.
Official Google Blog further says:
At Webmaster Central, we are all about communicating with webmasters about their sites in the Google index. We want to provide as much information as we can to help webmasters understand how their sites perform and how to improve their results. And we want to get input from the site owners, who after all know their sites best. We spend a lot of time talking with, and getting feedback from, webmasters. One request we hear a lot is to show which pages link to a site. You could always get a sub-sampled list of backlinks by using the link: operator, but now, as the owner of a site, you can get a much larger list in the Webmaster Tools component of Webmaster Central.
