Last Crawl Date Removed From Google- Webmaster Tools!

Are you guys noticing some change in the Google Webmaster Tools?

After logging-in, you will notice that Google has removed the crawl date from the Home page! The field was grouped in the "Home Page Crawl" section.

So the news is that the field is gone!

But the question now arises that: Why the date was removed?

Google's JohnMu gave his comments on this topic in a Google Groups thread, where he elaborated that the date was "frequently incorrect and not really that useful."

It has been really commendable that John has acted in an honest way in whatever he has to say on the whole issue.

John further explained:

“It's generally more useful to look at it on a page- by-page basis, which you can do best either in the Google Cache or by checking your server's logs. Usually there's not much need to check the exact date a page was crawled – it's more important to see that we're continually crawling and indexing the site in general.”

So the news is that the field is gone!
