It has happened twice in one year! What? The change in Google's Favorite Icon… First it happened in the month of June 2008 and now at the start of the year 2009! Don’t see it? Visit http://google.com/favicon.ico and refresh the page.

It seems that the one that was used earlier on was not the final one and that is why Google even held a contest looking for different submissions.
