In a recent blog posted on the Goggle Custom Search Engine site, there is the announcement of the launch of the APIs for Google Custom Search Engines.

Now API will be used to create and control Custom Search Engines (CSEs). Until now, a CSE was created with the help of wizard or by writing an XML file and then uploading it to Google. For making any sort of changes, one had to use the control panel or upload the new XML specification. There were some limitations with this process like

  1. Creating and maintaining a CSE was a manual process.
  2. It was not easy to create a large number of CSEs.
  3. There were some problem while using other data sources like iCal, RSS, Google Base, etc. for creating CSEs.

The new Linked CSEs overcome these limitations. APIs enables a user to manage the linked CSE feature in a much better way. Instead of managing all the criteria on Google's console, a user can manage it through its own tool by using this latest API. Some very important benefits of this new feature are

  1. Easy conversion of data to a Custom Search Engine.
  2. Automatically generate any number of CSEs, each possibly tuned to a particular user, the particular page, time of day, etc. .
  3. Easy update of Linked CSE definitions without pushing data to Google.
  4. There are no global, per user annotation limits.

You can get the API documentation here.
