In the month of June, we had informed our readers about Google Trends being updated with 'Numeric Scale' and 'CSV Support' .

Since Google's update to Google Trends was very well received with a lot of positive feedback, Google has now announced via the Google Inside AdWords Blog the launch of Google Insights for Search This product is designed specifically for the advertisers, as it will provide enhanced flexibility and functionality giving the marketers a better understanding of search behavior.

One of the most compelling features of Google Insight for Search is the 'world heat map', that displays search volume and regional interest via an interactive graphical display.

According to Google, “Like Google Trends, you can just type in a search term to see search volume patterns over time, as well as the top related and rising searches. You’ll also have the ability to compare search volume trends across multiple search terms, categories (commonly referred to as verticals), geographic regions, or specific time ranges.”

Here is how Google Insight for Search works:

For instance, when you search for a word, as simple as an 'apple', the majority of the top searches are related to the highly renowned brand of Apple Inc.

Assuming that you were expecting something other than Apple Inc, then you have the option of using the filter, where you can then select the 'Food & Drink' category. This will provide you with a completely different view of search volume trends and related searches of apple, the fruit.
