Google Launches 'Incorrect Map Location Marker'!
June 25th, 2008 | RSS Feed
Last year in November, I had posted a report about introduction of a service, known as the 'Incorrect Map Location Marker' via which, users could move home and business address markers if signed in to a Google account. According to Search Engine Roundtable, numerous small business owners have complained in the Google Groups, that their location markers on Google Groups aren't where they should be and they have also requested that Google bring back the 'Incorrect Map Location Marker' tool. This feature was previously available in the Google Maps. With its help, users were able to edit incorrect marker location. Google later removed it and deemed it as unnecessary. However, now after receiving numerous complaints and requests from users, Google has launched this feature in Google Maps.
Here are a few excerpts from the Google Group Thread:
“We have set up a client business in google maps. We got the location marker slightly incorrect, and want to change it. The change marker location is not there in the edit location area for this business. Used to be Any know the reason why?”
“I have a similar problem. Here are some additional details:
I can easily move the marker to the correct location if I look up the address (no business name), but the option to move the marker is missing on my *verified* business listing. I see no way to get that changed, short of deleting the listing entirely and starting over from scratch. (The marker is in the middle of the highway instead of at the entrance to our building parking lot). There are other errors I need to fix, but those are outside the scope of this topic.

To these Google Maps Guide 'Jen' replied,
“Hi!
Thanks for this feedback. We didn't think that the "edit incorrect marker location" might still be necessary after verification, but you've given us some clear evidence that it is. We'll be adding this capability back in.
Thanks,
Jen”

This is great, however, Google still provides no way to report/eliminate incorrect "verified" business locations, such as this fake 'Walmart SuperStore' which does not exist in downtown Nashville.
