Google Makes Searching More Refined by Adding New Search Options

It was a year ago when Google started adding search options to SERPs in order to give more refined results by time or to change the trend of how results were displayed on the SERP. In May 2009, the Search Options became official and features like image, video etc were added for further refinement.

Google has moved a step further by introducing more options with the search results. Users can now filter the search result by:

  • Specific date range.
  • Sources like blogs, books and news.
  • Pages they have or haven't visited.
  • Past hour.
  • Shopping information – if they want to see more or less.

All these features are great and will be highly useful in case of specific search. The best part is that Google is still hiding the Search Options by default. Google users will be confused or happy with the new search features added by Google but most of the options are meant only for a specific search.

The question is that how often will users refer to these search options? Will the new additions be useful to them? Is it good to have these options hidden by default?

Users can keep the options accessible on the blue bar to make the task more handy and if required, they can click on them for a refined search.
