Following an investigation over the creation of a fake 'derogatory and malicious' profile of Indian state chief minister Mayawati Google has removed the controversial profile.

Home Secretary Javed Ahmed said, "We have been getting several complaints about the matter posted regarding our chief minister on Orkut. We are conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter. Action will be taken against those responsible for this mischief. If it is found that objectionable words have been used against the Chief Minister, necessary steps will follow."

Another representative from the Mayawati’s secretariat said, "Besides carrying her brief biographical account, the website was loaded with objectionable matter about the chief minister, and that, too, in highly unparliamentary language."

Google had a statement saying, "Google is dedicated to offering the best possible experience on Orkut. We take violation of Orkut’s policy very seriously, as such activities diminish the experience for our users."

Pawan Duggal, Supreme Court lawyer and a cyber law expert said, "These excesses on social networking sites are not covered under Information Technology Act. Even the proposed amendments to Indian Cyber Law seeks to make a feeble attempt in making the identity thefts as a bailable offence."

Not just one but there are many profiles of Mayawati in the social networking site, such as "I hate Mayawati" and "Mulayam-Mayawati."
