Google Rules Worldwide Search: Competition From China & South Korea

Associated Press has a comScore report which informs that most of the world's searches are performed on Google.

Two relatively unknown, Baidu a formidable competitor in China and South Korea's NHN Corp were potent enough to soon be listed in comScore's Top 5. Google totals 60 % of the world's search, followed with Yahoo!(8.5 billion), Baidu(3.3 billion), Microsoft Corp. (2.2 billion) and NHN(2 billion).

"In China, one of the few countries where Google isn't dominant, Baidu shows how one regional player "can break into the top five globally by their complete control of a very, very large market," said Bob Ivins, comScore's executive vice president. Baidu entered the Chinese search market much earlier than Google, while NHN successfully tapped Koreans' preference for human interaction over software in getting search results."

The study also showed that, Europeans Internet users totalled the 2nd biggest number of searches: 16 billion by 206 million people.
