Google Search Market Share increased by 41.4%
March 6th, 2006 | RSS Feed
A study conducted in U.S by Comscore says that Google's share increased by 41.4% or more as compared to other search engines like Yahoo and MSN. Google bags the number one position with its scores roaring high up in terms of its share of all "searches". Although Hitwise and Netratings have given Google 50% share or more, Comscore numbers have also risen in the recent years. With Yahoo! at 28% and MSN at 13.7%, Google still rules.
A much more detailed analysis shows that Google images often ranks at number four. In that case Yahoo! properties such as Flickr have also become competitive enough. Search categories such as shopping, news blog, video and local will soon come up as the users get more sophisticated.
It has been often seen that ten out of twenty users do not have any preferences while choosing a home page or a search box. So, a considerable prompting is needed to improve such a state. But, a recent comment by Mr. Diller about Ask.com states that, producing a better quality product improves the search market share. However, a defending answer to his comment would be that the search market share does hold an imporatance in today's scenario. Searches cannot be given the name of a "media business," as they are simply used as an operating system or a browser.
MSFT's incredible figure of 80% search market share breaks the myth that "no media business stays at 30-40% market share for long".
