Google To Launch Copyright Material Filter On YouTube Soon
April 17th, 2007 | RSS Feed
YouTube has drawn criticism from all possible sources for intentional plagiarism. The list of complainants prominently includes movie companies and TV shows, In fact, Viacom has filed a $1bn lawsuit against Google last month. A filtering system that will block out copyrighted content was scheduled to be launched last year. Allegedly, Google has been delaying the release of the feature.
However, News.com has reported that Eric Schmidt has recently announced the release of the new system which will be known as “Claim Your Content.” The system will automatically identify copyrighted material and help remove it.
The comments were made in a face-to-face interview with John Seigenthaler, a former NBC's Nightly News reporter. In response to the lawsuit by Viacom, Eric Schmidt said:
"Ah Viacom, You're either doing business with them or being sued by them…we chose the former, but ended up the latter."
