Lawsuits Against Google Dismissed
December 26th, 2006 | RSS Feed
Google has won another case even without fighting it. A Madison based company, HyperPhrase Technologies LLC and its subsidiary, HyperPhrase Inc, had filed a lawsuit against Google citing that Google's AdSense and AutoLink products violate the company's patents.
U.S. District Judge John Shabaz dismissed the lawsuit in a 25 page ruling. The judge said that:
AutoLink performs a completely different function in a different way to achieve a different result.
The judge also put aside the AdSense lawsuit as "nonsense." He said that:
The product involves connecting two records which the AdSense statistically predicts hold a common interest for the reader. It has nothing whatever to do with a reference in one record to a second record.
BusinessWeek reports that a similar lawsuit filed by HyperPhrase was dismissed in 2003. The lawsuit claimed that Microsoft Corp.'s Office XP suite of business software infringed on its patents. That suit had sought $2 billion in damages.
