Local Search Gaining Popularity

According to the study conducted by comScore, more and more Internet users in America are resorting to online local search. The study shows, in July about 63 percent Internet users browsed the web for local search. About 30 and 29 percent of local searchers visited Google and Yahoo! Sites respectively while Microsoft sites attracted about 12 percent local searchers and Time Warner Network about 7 percent. Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore Media Metrix said:
“Local search is experiencing strong growth as more consumers adapt to the 'always on' nature of their broadband connection, which enables them to quickly find information on local businesses. With approximately 849 million local searches conducted by Americans in July, local advertisers have a sizable market that can be reached through leading search sites."

Local search is definately on the up, since our man with a van site got into google maps we've done really well – not sure how long it will be before google realises local search detracts from PPC clicks and changes it though.
