Opera Ditches Google: Ties Up With Yahoo!

At the end of an one year agreement with Google, Opera has signed a similar deal with Yahoo!. Now on, Yahoo! OneSearch would be the default search engine for Opera Mini and the full Opera Mobile browser. while all new downloads will come with the Yahoo! interface, the existing ones will be soon switched to Yahoo! too.

Nathan Weinberg reports that:

OneSearch works interestingly for mobiles by examining the search query and showing a set of results based on the type of search query. In the screenshot, since you are searching for 49ers, you are getting sports scores, stats, photos and news, while a search for iPod would default to shopping search and a search for a city would include weather, traffic and local news.

However, if comments to the post at Operawatch are something to go by, then not many users are happy with the transition. One of the comments read:

If Yahoo wanted to better serve us Opera Mini users, they’d create a special mobile version of the my.yahoo.com portal. (Have they done this without my knowledge?) I’d like to have that as my homepage. But I still prefer Google searches.
