Why Do Googlers Quit The #1 Search Engine?
October 23rd, 2007 | RSS Feed

Fortune Magazine rated Google Inc as No.1, in the 100 best places to work in , for the year 2007. Everyone knows about Google employees who get 20 percent of their time to work on something company-related that interests them personally, and their cafeteria, called 'Cafe150' is legendary. Then, why do Googlers leave?

Antone Gonsalves speaks to a few ex-Googlers and asks them why?
Bret Taylor, who is now an "entrepreneur in residence" at venture capitalist Benchmark Capital. Taylor, says, "I left because I wanted to go on my path."
"Patrick Keane, joined CBS Interactive as an executive VP and chief marketing officer. While all the men enjoyed working at Google, those that formed their own companies said the desire for independence was too strong." All in all, its because of their own entrepreneurial desires that they left the company and nothing else.
David Friedberg, a founding member of Google's corporate development team who led many of Google Inc's largest acquisitions, said the company employs those who are seeking for more than just money. Friedberg commented, "There are certain kinds of people where it's not about the money. And Google hires those kinds of people." Currently, Friedberg is chief executive of the Internet company WeatherBill, which he founded.
