Yahoo! India: City And Maps On Mobile Coming Soon!

The mobile version of Our City and Maps is all set for a release in India just after Yahoo Go 3.0 is launched in the country. Our City, which was developed in India, has been getting traction in Australia.

“The Our City application is seeing traction in Australia,” said Mr Sharad Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Yahoo Software Development India Pvt Ltd. Further stating that India was Yahoo!'s primary center for global development and was not to be considered as satellite center.

Yahoo!'s India Maps at present has a coverage of 45 cities and the landmark-based map directions have also been added to the application recently.

Moreover, Yahoo!’s front page would soon showcase widgets, “We are deepening our partnerships on e-mail. Our front page is opening up to widgets. Widgets are interface elements that users can interact with such as a window or a text box,” said Mr. Sharma. However, there's no news about when Yahoo Local will be launched for India. The alpha version has been around for about a year now, there were no comments on the issue from Yahoo!

A livemint report, informs that India only second vis-a-vis the user base of Yahoo! Groups after the US. There are in total about 8 million groups, with over 100 million subscribers.
