Yahoo! has rejected Google's request for help on creating digital copies of books. The New York Times reported, "In rejecting Google’s request, Yahoo! adopted the same stance taken last month by the Internet retailer Amazon.com, and called Google’s request a brazen attempt to pry into its trade secrets."

According to Google, they believe by obtaining details about similar projects involving rivals, they can provide online access to millions of library books. Last year, Authors Guild and a group of publishers sued Google for not getting
proper approval to make books available to anyone with an Internet connection. Google has subpoenaed Amazon.com, Yahoo and Microsoft, and others for getting evidence for its case.
